Skid Steer Services in Pleasant View, TN

Skid Steer Services · Pleasant View, TN

We bring the machine and run it

Phillips Land Services offers skid steer services around Pleasant View, Tennessee, halfway between Nashville and Clarksville. We bring the machine and run it on your job. The machine is a compact track loader, which is a skid steer with tracks. It works with a forestry mulcher head, a bucket and a brush cutter.

A skid steer for hire fits jobs too big for a shovel and too small for a dozer. One brushy corner, a rutted drive or a low spot may take a few hours of machine time. We also take on full-property clearing, storm damage cleanup and snow removal on parking lots. Either way, we look at the job and put the quote in writing, so call or text (931) 265-1151.

What Skid Steer Work Can Each Attachment Do?

Brush and small trees get the forestry mulcher head, and that is skid steer land clearing. It takes trees up to about 6 to 7 inches across and leaves the mulch where it falls. Bigger trees belong to a tree service, and stump grinding is another trade too. Wooded acreage is our forestry mulching work.

Dirt and stone get the bucket. Skid steer grading levels yards and low spots, which is our land grading work. Spreading fill and topsoil is dirt work, and a level pad for a build is site preparation. Spreading stone on a drive is gravel driveway work.

Tall grass, weeds and briars get the brush cutter. In a field or a pasture, that is bush hogging. Along a yard edge or a fence row, it is brush clearing.

Why a Tracked Skid Steer Suits Ground Around Pleasant View

Much of the ground around Pleasant View is gravelly silt loam over clay, and winters and springs run wet. The U.S. Forest Service says a compact track loader's edge is higher flotation and more traction. It sinks less and grips more, so it handles loose, wet ground better than a machine on wheels. Soaked ground can still rut, so a wet site may wait for a drier week.

Tracks generally climb better than wheels, which helps on rolling Highland Rim lots. Still, the Forest Service says a compact track loader's short track and narrow stance limit it on slopes. NIOSH, the federal workplace safety agency, says to travel straight up or down a slope, not across it. So we look at any steep bank before we quote it.

Tight access suits a skid steer too. It turns by stopping or reversing one side, and the Forest Service calls that a zero-turn radius. A national farm machinery safety program adds that skid steers fit into small spaces. That helps beside a house or between trees, where a bigger machine may not fit.

What to Have Ready Before the Skid Steer Comes

Measure the narrowest spot on the way in, such as a gate or a gap between trees. Text us that width, along with a photo if you can. Then pick a firm, level place near the road where the loader can unload. NIOSH advises loading and unloading on level ground when possible.

If the job moves dirt, plan for Tennessee 811 first. Grading counts as digging under state law, and Tennessee 811 asks for at least three working days of notice. Utilities may not mark private lines, Tennessee 811 says. Find and flag any buried line to a barn, a well or a septic tank before the machine starts.

Big jobs can add paperwork with TDEC, the state's environment department. Its construction stormwater permit applies to clearing, grading or excavation that disturbs one or more acres. Smaller work can still fall under county or town rules, so check with your local codes office before work starts.

FAQ

Skid Steer Services Questions, Answered

Common questions about skid steer services around Pleasant View and the towns between Nashville and Clarksville. If yours is not here, call or text and ask.

Call (931) 265-1151

Does the skid steer come with someone to run it?
Yes. Our skid steer services are work we do on your property. We bring the compact track loader and run it on your job. Tell us what needs doing, and the quote comes in writing after we look at the job.
Do you take small skid steer jobs?
Yes. A job can be a few hours of machine time or a full property. One old shed to knock down can be a short job, and that is our shed demolition work. Call or text (931) 265-1151 and tell us what you have.
How much does skid steer work cost?
The price depends on the work and how much machine time it takes. Thick growth, a lot of dirt to move, steep ground and tight access all add time. We look at the job and put the quote in writing. Call or text (931) 265-1151 with the details.
Do I need an excavator instead of a skid steer?
An excavator digs down with a bucket on a long arm, so it suits deep work. Utility trenches and foundations call for an excavation contractor. Our skid steer clears, grades and moves dirt on top of the ground. If your job needs that other trade, we say so when we look at it.
Do I need a dozer instead of a skid steer?
A dozer is a bigger machine that shoves soil with a blade on the front. Heavy earthmoving on a big site calls for one, and that is another trade. On brush and small trees, a dozer brings up roots and soil. Our mulcher head leaves them in the ground.
Will a skid steer tear up my yard?
It can leave marks, mostly where it turns. The Forest Service says the way these machines turn can move more soil, and tight turns show it most. Tell us which grass and trees you want left alone when we look at the job.
