Shed Removal and Outbuilding Demolition, Start to Finish

An old shed often sits past the point of saving. The floor has rotted through, or the roof has caved in. A carport with a bent frame or a rusted roof ends up in the same place. At that point, taking it down makes more sense than patching it.

We look at the shed and the path to it before we quote. On the work day, the track loader knocks the shed down, and we haul the debris off. A carport or a small outbuilding comes down the same way. Old fences do too, and the wire and boards get hauled off with the rest.

After the debris is gone, we can level the bare spot with yard leveling. If a new shed is going up there, site preparation can give it a level pad.

What Should You Clear Out Before Shed Removal?

Empty the shed before the work day. Take out the tools and anything else you want to keep. Gas cans, paint, chemicals and propane tanks need to come out too.

If the shed has power, have an electrician disconnect it first. Shut off any water line that runs to it. Tennessee 811 notes that utility operators may not mark private lines. Show us any buried line you know about, like one from the house to the shed.

If briars and vines have grown over the shed, brush clearing comes first. Tell us about narrow gates or soft ground between the drive and the shed.

Do You Need a Permit to Tear Down a Shed in Cheatham County?

Check before the tear-down. Outside town limits, Cheatham County's permit sheet lists demolishing a structure among the work that needs a permit. Whether a small shed needs one is a question for the county codes office.

Inside the Town of Pleasant View, the town's building permit form lists demolition as a type of work. Metro Nashville Codes and Montgomery County both list demolishing a structure as work that needs a permit. Other towns and counties in our area set their own rules. The office for your address answers the question, and we point you there.

Tennessee's one-call law covers demolition as well as digging. It calls for notice to Tennessee 811 at least three working days before the work starts. The law also gives each affected utility reasonable time to remove or protect its lines first.

How a Job With Phillips Land Services Runs

From the first call or text to the finished work, here is how it goes.

1

Call or Text

Call or text (931) 265-1151, or send the form. Tell us where the land is and what you want done with it.

2

We Look at the Job

We look at the land and the work you want done. The brush, the tree sizes, the slope and the way in all shape the plan.

3

Your Quote in Writing

The quote comes in writing and spells out the work. You decide with it in hand.

4

We Clear the Land

We set a start date with you and bring in the track loader. Brush and small trees come down and turn to mulch.

5

Graded and Ready

Where the job calls for it, we grade the ground or spread gravel after the clearing. Then the land is ready for its next use.

FAQ

Shed Demolition Questions, Answered

Common questions about shed demolition around Pleasant View and the towns between Nashville and Clarksville. If yours is not here, call or text and ask.

Call (931) 265-1151

Do you tear down old barns?
Yes, for barns about the size of a shed. A small barn comes down the same way a shed does, and the debris gets hauled off. House demolition and commercial demolition are another trade, and we do not take them on.
Can I just burn the old shed instead?
The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) keeps a list of what not to burn. Buildings and building material are both on that list. We knock the shed down and haul the debris off instead.
What if the shed sits on a concrete slab?
Breaking up a concrete slab is not something we do. A concrete contractor handles that part. We still knock the shed down and haul its debris off.
What if the old shed might have asbestos?
Asbestos handling is not part of our work. The EPA says asbestos removal belongs with people trained and qualified to handle it. If you suspect asbestos in the shed, have the material checked before it comes down.
How much does shed removal cost?
The price depends on the size of the building and what it is made of. The amount of debris to haul matters too, and so does access for the track loader. We take on jobs from a few hours of machine time up to full-property clearing. Call or text (931) 265-1151, and you get the quote in writing after we look at the job.
Do you work in my area?
Pleasant View sits at the center of our service area, and we work about 30 miles around it. That takes in Clarksville, Springfield, Dickson and the north and west side of Nashville. See the towns we serve for the full list.
