Forestry mulching turns brush and small trees into mulch right where they stand. Our track loader runs a forestry mulcher head that grinds trees up to about 7 inches across. That opens up overgrown acreage, wooded lots, fence lines, trails and hunting land. The wood goes back on the ground as mulch, and the roots stay in the soil.
We take on forestry mulching jobs from a few hours of machine time up to full-property clearing. Forestry mulching is one way we handle land clearing around Pleasant View. Brush on a yard or a small lot is our brush clearing work. Call or text (931) 265-1151, and we will look at the job and put the quote in writing.

Forestry mulching brings back fields and pastures that grew up in saplings and cedar. The Forest Service's tree guide notes that eastern red cedar is among the first trees to invade abandoned fields. Once the growth is ground down, the field can be cut and used again.
The land around Pleasant View sits on the Highland Rim, from rolling ridges to steep, wooded hollows. On a wooded lot, the mulcher clears the underbrush and saplings between the bigger trees. The woods open up, and you can see through them again.
The forestry mulcher also opens grown-in fence lines and cuts trails through the woods. On hunting land, it can open shooting lanes through thick brush.
The mulcher head grinds standing brush and trees into chips, and the chips fall where the plants stood. Forest Service research describes the result as small, broken pieces of wood a few inches deep. The roots and the topsoil stay in place under that layer. Over time, the mulch breaks down into the soil.
Soil nutrients hold up after mulching, Forest Service studies found. Driving over the fresh mulch also keeps erosion and compaction down. Our forestry mulcher runs on a compact track loader. The Forest Service says its tracks let it work loose soil with less chance of soil disturbance.
A dozer pushes trees out roots and all, and soil comes up with the roots. The ground left behind is bare, and the brush ends up in piles. Those piles get burned or hauled, and Cheatham County's own waste sites cannot accept brush.
From October 15 through May 15, a Tennessee brush pile fire needs a state burn permit. The Division of Forestry issues it, and each permit is good for one day. When fire danger runs high, the state pauses burn permits. Some counties and towns set stricter rules of their own.
Forestry mulching skips the pile, because the wood stays on the ground as mulch. That cover counts on the steep, cherty slopes around Pleasant View, where soil surveys rate runoff up to very high. Ground where a house or a barn will sit needs more than mulch. It needs a cleared footprint and a level pad, which is our site preparation work.
